We are recruiting on behalf of an established children's care provider for an experienced Deputy Children's Home Manager to join a residential children's home in the London Borough of Redbridge.
The home supports children and young people with emotional and behavioural difficulties and has been rated Good by Ofsted at its most recent inspection.
About the Role
As Deputy Children's Home Manager, you will work closely with the Registered Manager to ensure the home provides consistently high standards of care, safeguarding and support.
You will play a key role in leading the staff team, supporting the development of the children and young people, and ensuring the home operates in line with regulatory and organisational requirements.
You will also deputise for the Registered Manager in their absence, taking responsibility for the effective running of the home and making appropriate decisions when required.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Registered Manager with the day-to-day running of the children's home.
- Take the lead in the absence of the Registered Manager.
- Provide effective leadership and guidance to the residential childcare team.
- Supervise, support and develop residential childcare workers.
- Assist with staff recruitment, induction, training and development.
- Support the management of staff rotas and ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
- Promote a safe, stable, nurturing and therapeutic environment for children and young people.
- Ensure safeguarding concerns are identified, reported, recorded and acted upon appropriately.
- Support the Designated Safeguarding Lead and contribute to safeguarding processes.
- Contribute to care planning, risk assessments and behaviour support plans.
- Ensure children and young people's wishes, feelings and views are listened to and reflected in their care.
- Support children to develop independence and achieve positive outcomes in education, health and emotional wellbeing.
- Lead and support staff in managing challenging behaviour using appropriate therapeutic and de-escalation techniques.
- Maintain accurate records, reports and care documentation.
- Monitor compliance with policies, procedures and standards of care.
- Support the Registered Manager with Ofsted inspections, audits and regulatory requirements.
- Contribute to service improvement and staff development plans.
- Build effective relationships with social workers, families, schools, healthcare professionals and other agencies.
- Attend reviews, planning meetings and multi-agency meetings where required.
Essential
- 2 Years experience working in a children's residential home.
- Previous experience as a Deputy Children's Home Manager, Senior Residential Support Worker or Senior Children's Residential Practitioner.
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or an equivalent relevant qualification.
- Experience supervising, leading or mentoring staff.
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding and child protection.
- Understanding of Ofsted requirements and children's residential care regulations.
- Experience supporting children and young people with EBD, complex needs, trauma or challenging behaviour.
- Experience contributing to care plans, risk assessments and behaviour management strategies.
- Ability to lead a shift and make confident decisions in the absence of the Registered Manager.
- Strong communication, organisation and decision-making skills.
- A genuine commitment to improving outcomes for children and young people.
- Willingness to work towards a Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, where required.
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare, or currently working towards it.
- Experience working within an EBD, therapeutic or specialist children's residential setting.
- Experience supporting Ofsted inspections or regulatory audits.
- Experience contributing to service improvement and staff development.
