The Role:

As Deputy Manager, you will support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of the children’s home, ensuring a high-quality, child-centred service. You will lead and guide the staff team to deliver safe, consistent care, aligned with regulatory standards and organisational policies. Your role will have a direct impact on the wellbeing, development, and long-term outcomes of the children you support.

Key Responsibilities:

• Support the Registered Manager in overseeing daily operations of the children’s home to ensure a safe, structured, and nurturing environment.
• Lead, supervise, and motivate staff, providing clear direction and regular guidance to maintain high standards of practice.
• Ensure effective safeguarding procedures are implemented, monitored, and followed, responding appropriately to concerns and incidents.
• Embed Ofsted regulations and inspection frameworks into everyday practice, preparing documentation and evidence for inspections.
• Promote effective communication with children, families, and external professionals, ensuring care plans and interventions are clearly understood and followed.
• Oversee risk assessments and behaviour management strategies, ensuring they are current, robust, and consistently applied.
• Monitor compliance with children’s residential care policies and procedures, addressing any shortfalls and implementing improvements.
• Contribute to the development and review of individual care plans, ensuring they reflect the needs, wishes, and best interests of each child.

Key Requirements:

• Proven experience in a supervisory or senior role within children’s residential care or a closely related setting.
• Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to coach, support, and hold staff accountable.
• In-depth knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures and ability to implement them in practice.
• Clear understanding of Ofsted regulations, inspection frameworks, and quality standards for children’s homes.
• Confident communication skills with children, families, and multi-agency professionals, both verbally and in writing.
• Demonstrated ability to undertake and oversee risk assessments and implement effective behaviour management strategies.
• Strong awareness of and commitment to compliance with residential care policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Ability to work flexibly, including participation in an on-call rota and occasional shift work as required.

Desirable Skills:

• Experience contributing to Ofsted inspections and action plans within a children’s home.
• Background in developing and delivering staff training in safeguarding, behaviour management, or residential care practice.
• Experience supporting children with complex needs, trauma histories, or challenging behaviour.
• Familiarity with therapeutic or trauma-informed approaches in children’s residential care.
• Competence in using care management systems and maintaining accurate, high-quality records.

Qualifications:

• Level 3 Diploma in Children and Young People’s Workforce (Residential Childcare) or equivalent – required.
• Evidence of continued professional development in safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour management – preferred.
• Up-to-date training in safeguarding and child protection – required.
