Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential Home Salary: £34,800 per year (DOE)
Full Time

Location - Luton
Additional Pay: Sleep-ins £40 per night | Overtime £17.00 per hour
Shift Pattern: 2 days on / 4 days off
Contract: Full-time, Permanent

Summary of the Role The Deputy Manager will support the Registered Manager in delivering the home’s Statement of Purpose, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care and strong outcomes for young people. You will provide effective leadership, promote best practice, and act as an advocate for the children and young people in your care.

Essential Requirements
  • Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (required)
  • Level 5 Leadership & Management (achieved or working towards)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a children’s residential setting
  • Strong understanding of care planning, safeguarding, and regulatory expectations
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Experience supporting children with learning disabilities, Autism, and complex needs
  • Confident in working with children who have varied communication needs, including non-verbal young people (e.g., PECS, visual aids, choice boards)
  • Ability to take on increased levels of professional responsibility and support the wider team
  • Full UK driving licence
Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Registered Manager to ensure the smooth and compliant operation of the home in line with legislation, policies, and the home’s Statement of Purpose
  • Promote and safeguard the welfare, rights, and dignity of all young people
  • Maintain and promote the highest standard of care and individualised support
  • Assist in the ongoing assessment of young people’s needs and contribute to tailored development plans
  • Participate in recruitment, induction, mentoring, and supervision of staff
  • Contribute to a robust training and development programme, ensuring the team has the skills and knowledge required
  • Model excellent practice and help foster a positive, stable team culture
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with young people, families, professionals, and external agencies
  • Chair meetings, reviews, and professional discussions as required
  • Work collaboratively to ensure safe staffing levels, effective rota planning, and strong team coordination
