Children' s Home Manager – Children’s 2 Bed EBD Home - Essex Area- Up to £63,500 per annum - Full-time

This independent Home is a small, therapeutic 2-bed EBD home in East Tilbury. You will be the Ofsted Registered Manager, responsible for the daily leadership and delivery of high-quality care at Independent Home. You’ll develop the home’s culture, systems, and staff practice to ensure that children are safe, listened to, and making clear, measurable progress.
Key responsibilities
  • Lead the home to Ofsted registration and beyond; ensure full compliance with the Children’s Homes (England) Regs 2015 and Quality Standards.
  • Safeguarding leadership (work with the DSL; act as DSL if required); manage referrals, risk and multi-agency partnerships.
  • Recruit, induct, supervise and develop a high-performing team; deliver a trauma-informed, PACE-aligned culture; ensure PMVA (NFPS) training and restraint-reduction practice.
  • Oversight of care planning, placement plans, behaviour support, education engagement and children’s voice.
  • Maintain robust records (Lief or similar), audits and Reg 44/45 processes; drive continuous improvement.
  • Budget, rota and resource management; ensure safe staffing and effective on-call cover.
  • Build positive relationships with placing authorities, IROs, schools and families; represent the home professionally at meetings.
About you (essential)
  • Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare (England) (or recognised equivalent).
  • At least 2 years’ recent experience in a children’s residential home, including 12+ months supervising/managing staff (Deputy or RM).
  • Strong working knowledge of Regs 11–14Reg 35, safeguarding (Working Together 2023), and inspection frameworks (SCCIF).
  • Proven track record of achieving or maintaining Good/Outstanding or of taking a service from start-up to compliant operation.
  • Confident multi-agency working, risk management and incident/complaints handling.
  • Excellent leadership, coaching and people skills; calm, child-centred decision-making.
Desirable
  • Start-up or registration experience for a new home.
  • Familiarity with NFPS PMVA and PACE practice.
  • Experience with EBD, CSE/CCE risk management, missing-from-care protocols (e.g., Philomena).
