We are seeking an experienced and passionate Assistant Manager to support the Registered Manager in the day-to-day running of a Children's Home.
You will help ensure the home meets Childrenās Homes (England) Regulations 2015, Quality Standards, and Ofsted expectations while leading a trauma-informed, child-centred environment for children with EBD, SEMH, and complex needs.
This role requires excellent leadership skills, safeguarding expertise, and the ability to motivate staff to deliver consistent, high-quality care. You will act as Deputy in the Managerās absence and may join the on-call rota to ensure seamless oversight.

š Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership
- Support the Registered Manager in effective daily operation of the home.
- Lead shifts, supervise staff, and ensure rota cover in line with assessed ratios (e.g., 2:1 or 1:1).
- Assist in care plan development and behaviour support strategies.
- Contribute to Ofsted audit preparation and maintain regulatory documentation.
- Implement and monitor policies, procedures, and risk assessments.
- Act as Deputy DSL where required and respond promptly to safeguarding concerns.
- Record and escalate incidents, complaints, or allegations accurately and on time.
- Monitor physical interventions, missing from care episodes, and behaviour logs.
- Foster a culture of transparency, curiosity, and safeguarding excellence.
- Supervise and mentor staff to deliver therapeutic, trauma-informed practice (e.g., PACE).
- Facilitate team meetings, debriefs, and reflective practice sessions.
- Support recruitment, induction, and probation monitoring of staff.
- Deliver or coordinate mandatory and specialist training.
- Ensure childrenās voices are central to care planning and daily routines.
- Support access to education, therapy, healthcare, and activities.
- Advocate for childrenās emotional, psychological, and social needs.
- Model inclusive, respectful, and nurturing relationships.
- Maintain accurate case notes, safeguarding logs, medication records, and risk assessments.
- Contribute to the homeās development plan, quality assurance reports, and staff tracking.
- Represent the home at LAC reviews, professional meetings, and multi-agency forums.
- Participate in the on-call management rota, providing advice, direction, and emergency response.
- Step up during the Registered Managerās absence to ensure continuity of care.
- NVQ Level 3 in Residential Childcare (or equivalent) ā essential
- Working toward or willing to complete Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management ā desirable
- Minimum 2 yearsā experience in a childrenās home or similar setting
- Strong knowledge of safeguarding, risk assessment, and childrenās legislation
- Understanding of trauma, neurodiversity, EBD, SEMH, and therapeutic models (e.g., PACE)
